TEDxYouthCroydon, The Brit School, Croydon, 16th November 2013
On 16th November TEDxYouthCroydon will take place at the prestigious Brit School in London. This unique event will see 11 young speakers present well-formed and inspirational ideas in less than 15 minutes to a selection of students from sixth form schools based within the Borough of Croydon. This is the first annual event, which will showcase aspirational ideas from young people who aim to inspire the young people of Croydon. The event will also play host to two entertainment performances by Mandem On The Wall and The Brit Dance Group.
Speakers include poet Najite Graham, the three creators of the Mandem Comedy Series, Founder & CEO of Brainbook Ltd Gary Smith and many more who can be located at http://tedxyouthcroydon.com/speakers//
2011 saw the London riots erupt onto the streets of Croydon. In light of these events, we believe that TEDxYouthCroydon will shed a positive light on the young people of Croydon, who felt they were not being heard. We aim to give them back their voice and celebrate all the great things about the Borough of Croydon.
The theme of the event is THE SPARK – What’s The Idea?
The young speakers come from a variety of backgrounds, education and environments. They will be sharing stories, ideas and knowledge about where the spark for their journey began and what did they do with that idea to make a difference in the world.
This event will in turn inspire other young people to run with their ideas and make their own dreams come true, creating opportunities for the youth of Croydon and generating a positive perception of the area.
TedxYouthCroydon is part of the Universal TEDxYouthDay which is a series of TEDx events happening in over 100 countries around the world coinciding with Universal Children’s Day in late November. Around 17,000 young people will be taking part in this very prestigious event.
The event will be live streamed onto the TED website, giving 100,000s of people access to watch TEDxYouthCroydon.
The event will take place on Saturday 16th November 2013 at The Brit School.

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California almost 30 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes on a diverse mix of topics. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The TED2014 Conference will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, along with the TEDActive simulcast in neighboring Whistler. TEDGlobal 2014 will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; and TEDBooks, short e-books on powerful ideas. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
